A world class cancer treatment centre at Campbelltown has moved a step closer to opening its doors following delivery of advanced radiation therapy technology this week.

The centre, expected to open in March next year, will offer access to advanced integrated cancer services including radiation oncology, medical oncology, immunotherapy, haematology, allied health care support such as a wellness pavilion.

It will also offer clinical trials for some patients.

Other service providers will offer pathology and imaging under the same roof to simplify the patient experience.

The precinct is the result of a partnership between Campbelltown Council, Australia’s largest private integrated cancer care provider GenesisCare, construction company Erilyan, and owner of the site – NorthWest Healthcare Properties – Australia’s largest owner and manager of healthcare property.

On Monday, representatives of Campbelltown Council, GenesisCare and its consumer advocacy groups, and construction team members visited the site opposite Koshigaya Park to witness the arrival of the multi-million dollar equipment that was transported into the GenesisCare facility as part of the clinical fit-out phase.

“The arrival of this technology today marks a major milestone in the delivery of our new centre,’’ says Michael Davis, general manager of GenesisCare NSW.

“Campbelltown is one of Australia’s fastest growing cities and a key priority for the new Campbelltown centre has been future-proofing services and care to accommodate the growing population not only in Campbelltown but the wider region,’’ he said.

GenesisCare says it recognises that one of the best ways to help enhance quality-of-care is to partner with people who have experienced cancer first-hand, including through its consumer representative panel.

Panel member Lee McKerracher, a local to the Campbelltown area, toured the facility to share her feedback on the centre’s design.

“I was delighted to hear that a new cancer treatment centre was under construction in Campbelltown to give future patients greater choice close to home,” Ms McKerracher said.

“In developing this new centre, I applaud GenesisCare for inviting feedback from people who have previously experienced cancer.

“It shows vulnerability, but ultimately helps to discover insights that can make such a difference in how a patient interacts with a facility and its team which, in turn, elevates the level of care.”

This $52 million development is the first stage of an innovative healthcare precinct in the heart of Campbelltown.

The environment and sustainability are key focuses for the precinct, which aims to achieve a 6-Star-GreenStar rating once completed and assessed.

The precinct is surrounded by green open spaces such as Koshigaya Park and is conveniently located close to Campbelltown rail station, Narellan Road and the M5, creating ease of access for patients travelling to and from the centre from across the region.

  1. One of the best projects ever seen in Campbelltown and full credit must go to Campbelltown City Council for facilitating this development, very well done.
