The new link road runs near St Gregorys College in the Scenic Hills and connects with Badgally Road.

A new road linking Camden with Campbelltown has been opened to traffic this afternoon.

Running close to St Gregory’s College high in the Scenic Hills, the new link road will save travel time for anyone driving between the new housing estates of Oran Park, Gregory Hills and even Harrington Grove and the western side of Campbelltown.

The road essentially links Camden Valley Way with the Hume Highway.

It directly links the existing sections of Gregory Hills Drive and Badgally Road, and experts argue that the link will be a major improvement to the regional road network in the Macarthur area.

But it will bring more traffic eastwards, especially Eagle Vale Drive, which is connects to the Hume Highway via Raby Road.

It will also offer access to Campbelltown via Badgally Road and Blaxland Road.

But what has opened to traffic this afternoon is the completion of the first phase of the final construction works.

Drivers will initially be able to travel on one lane in each direction, with construction of the final section of the dual carriageway road due for completion in the first half of 2018.

The staged opening of the final section was essential so that students and staff of St Gregory’s College could continue to access their school during the construction phase.

The $45 million road has been delivered by Dart West Developments, the developer of Gregory Hills, as part of a Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) with the NSW Government.

It complements the substantial ongoing investments in roads in the Macarthur area by both the NSW and Commonwealth Governments.

“Camden and Campbelltown Councils, the NSW Government and the Commonwealth Government are all working to coordinate and deliver new infrastructure and new communities across South West Sydney.

“Dart West is pleased to have contributed to improving the regional road network so that Macarthur area residents and businesses can move around more conveniently,” Mr Taylor said.

The road is expected to improve travel times significantly, particularly when the final work on the second carriageway is complete in the first half of 2018.
