The first season of Wollondilly Dodgers Baseball Club is turning out to be one hell of a ride.

Formed ahead of the 2026 baseball season in Macarthur, the Dodgers have welcomed more than 120 registered players across 11 teams, nine junior and two senior.

The new club is also supported by an exceptional group of volunteers who bring training, game days, and club operations to life.

The Wollondilly Dodgers were founded by president Kynan Mathew and vice president Matt Redman.

Their vision was to create a welcoming, family‑focused baseball club that gives local children and adults a place to play, learn, and belong.

And so far, so good.

In round four, Saturday, September 26, the Dodgers marked a major milestone when they hosted their first ever home round at Douglas Park Sportsground.

The club’s opening day was a celebration of community, sport, and local pride, in the presence of a number of special guests.

They included Glenn Williams, CEO of Baseball Australia, Shane Dodd, president of the Macarthur Baseball League, Judy Hannan, Member for Wollondilly, and Councillor Jacqueline Jensen representing Mayor Matt Gould

Club sponsors present included RBI Australia, Reynolds Bryant Realty, and Wests Macarthur Group,
whose CEO Daniel Perkiss threw the ceremonial first pitch.

“Their presence highlighted the growing momentum behind baseball in our region and the importance of community-driven sport,’’ says a Dodgers spokesperson.

“Our inaugural home round wasn’t just a milestone for the club, it was a celebration of what community sport can achieve when people come together with passion and purpose.

“Baseball is expanding rapidly across South West Sydney, and the Dodgers are proud to be at the forefront of that growth.

“With such a strong first year, we’re excited to continue building on this trajectory, and we hope to one day secure a purpose built baseball facility right here in the Shire.’’
