About time: Eagles players and committee members including Daniel Draper, left, with MP Russell Matheson in front of the existing amenities building at Waminda Oval.

The amenities building at Waminda Oval, which hosts cricket in summer and rugby league in winter, has been inadequate for some years.

But finally now Waminda Oval will get a brand new amenities facility.

The East Campbelltown Eagles rugby league club, who use Waminda Oval as their home ground, have welcomed a commitment from MP Russell Matheson for a $290,000 new amenities building.

“Our club has participated at a high level in the NSWRL for many years, but sadly our facilities have been well behind compared to other districts,” says Glen Harding, president of East Campbelltown Eagles JRLFC.

“This funding commitment will help our club, players (juniors and seniors), supporters and community compete in a semi professional competition,’’ he said.

“Russell [Matheson] has been a leader for local sport and on behalf of East Campbelltown Eagles JRLFC, I would like to thank him for his support.”

In making the commitment for the money, Mr Matheson said the Macarthur region would benefit from a new amenities building at Waminda Oval.

“East Campbelltown Eagles Rugby League Football Club and Campbelltown RSL Cricket Club have been crying out for a new and improved amenities building at Waminda Oval in Campbelltown for too long,” Mr Matheson said.

“The new building will be more than twice the size of existing facilities, providing ample room for local cricket and rugby league to develop and grow into the future.”

The new amenity building at Waminda Oval would include new changing room facilities, a meeting room for coaching courses and seminars, storage and a serving area for parents and spectators on match day.
