An NDIS information forum will be held in Campbelltown on November 18.

Campbelltown City Council, in partnership with Macarthur Community Options, will host a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Service Providers Forum on Wednesday, November 18 from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

To be held at Campbelltown Civic Hall, the forum will discuss the rollout of the NDIS, which will be available in Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly from July 2016.

Under the scheme, people with disability will develop their own individualised plan that identifies outcomes they wish to achieve, the disability supports that will be funded by the NDIS, and any other assistance they require.

Participants will have choice and control over the providers they engage to deliver the supports in their plan.

The forum will focus on the operational aspects of transitioning to the NDIS, with representatives from Ability Options, Life Style Solutions and Cerebral Palsy Alliance, detailing their experiences.

A person with disability will also provide a customer’s perspective.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said that the forum was organised in response to concerns raised by local disability providers, who wanted more information in preparation for the NDIS rollout next year.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“With a significant number of people expected to access the scheme when it becomes available, it is important for local providers to be prepared and have a planned approach to manage its implementation,” Cr Hawker said.[/social_quote]

“The NDIS is currently being trialled in seven locations across Australia, and local organisations are keen to learn from other providers’ experiences.

“Council is committed to working with local service providers and networks to promote disability issues and improve access to information, and to ensure that people with disability and their carers have the opportunity to express their opinion,” Cr Hawker said.
