Campbelltown families are invited to celebrate the joy of reading at their local library branch during National Simultaneous Storytime on Wednesday, May 24.
The annual event, held during Library and Information Week, aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books.
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
This year The Cow Tripped Over the Moon, written by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood, will be read at Campbelltown’s four library branches at 11am.
Story time activities will be held from 10.30am to 11.30am at HJ Daley Library, Campbelltown, and from 10.45am to 11.45am at Eagle Vale Library, Glenquarie Library and Greg Percival Library in Ingleburn.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, encouraged parents to bring their children along to their local library on May 24, to join the thousands of Aussie kids at hundreds of locations across the country listening to the same story at the same time.
“National Simultaneous Storytime is a fun way to foster a love of reading, and the value of books, both of which develop a child’s imagination and knowledge, and will open up a wealth of opportunities in terms of study and career choices,” he said.
“It’s also a great way to showcase the huge variety of resources, facilities, events and services which are available at our local library branches.”
