Coming to Casula Powerhouse in July: the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows will perform in Music of the Spheres.

According to ancient philosophers the celestial bodies moved in perfect harmony to create “music of the spheres”.

You couldn’t hear it, but you could admire its perfection.

Something that makes perfection audible is the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows concert entitled Music of the Spheres.

This concert, which will be performed at Casula Powerhouse on Sunday, July 19, offers the audience an inspiring program based around music by American composer Eric Ewazen.

Ewazen has written a piece for flute, clarinet, trumpet, violin and cello inspired by the mandalas of Buddhist ritual.

Fierce Deities of the Between is energetic and fiery – a representation of the ferocious guardian spirits who appear between death and resurrection.

The concert begins with Ewazen’s Philharmonic Fanfare, followed by English music from the 17th and 20th centuries, showing off the gorgeous sonorities of instruments in different combinations.

And the concert ends with the young Beethoven at his most entertaining – his lively Septet was one of his most popular pieces during his lifetime (much to his annoyance, so while his audience smiled, Beethoven frowned!).

The performers in this varied program are some of Australia’s top young instrumentalists, banding together to present the first ever Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows concert at Casula Powerhouse.

Join them for Music of the Spheres.

This concert was made possible by the Crown Resorts Foundation.

Each year, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellowship program brings together some of the most talented young instrumentalists from throughout Australia for an intensive period of mentoring, workshops and performances.

Hear the 2015 Fellows play for your entertainment in the intimate space of Casula Powerhouse.
