Campbelltown MP Greg Warren has urged the Baird Government to ensure that the proper planning and delivery of infrastructure and government services is central to its development of Wilton and the Greater Macarthur south of Campbelltown.

Mr Warren’s call comes after the Baird Government announced new boundaries for the Greater Macarthur priority growth area over the weekend.

The new boundaries will allow for almost 50,000 additional homes to be built by releasing land at Mount Gilead, Menangle, West Appin and Wilton, as well as increasing housing density along the railway corridor between Glenfield and Macarthur.

Mr Warren said that the announcement cements Campbelltown’s place as a regional city within the Sydney Metropolitan area, and that the Government must come to the table and properly fund infrastructure and services.

“I welcome the Minister acknowledging Campbelltown as the epicentre of the growing South West Sydney region, and will fight to ensure that the Minister and the Government deliver the necessary infrastructure and services that comes with being a regional city,’’ he said.

“Campbelltown and the broader Macarthur region is already home to some of the most congested roads in Australia, so it’s absolutely essential that the Government invests in building the roads and public transport infrastructure new and existing residents need.”

“With an extra 50,000 homes to be built in our region over the coming years, the Government also has to ensure that the health services, schools and other government services in Macarthur are given extra resources to cope with the increased demand.”

Two vital road projects

Mr Warren identified Appin Road and the Menangle/Spring Farm Link Road as being two critical infrastructure projects that the Government must fund as part of the development.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Appin Road already struggles to cope with the traffic flow from existing residents, and with another 50,000 houses on the way, most of which will be located along Appin Road between Campbelltown and Appin, it’s absolutely essential for the Baird Government to join the Federal Government in allocating funds toward upgrading Appin Road,” he said.[/social_quote]

“The Menangle/Spring Farm Link Road is also hugely important in reducing congestion issues in the region, by providing another access point to the Hume Motorway. It is absolutely vital that this road is built in its entirety before any new houses are built to the south of Campbelltown.”

Mr Warren also thanked the hundreds of local residents, businesses and organisations who made submissions during the exhibition of the draft boundaries, and encouraged other residents who wished to make a submission to do so before the deadline on August 30.

Submissions can be made online here.
