Will we ever get the NBN? MP Anne Stanley is not happy with the internet situation in her electorate.

A new federal MP wants to hear from local residents who are experiencing internet problems.

Anne Stanley, who won the seat of Werriwa for Labor in the July election, says she is concerned her electorate is getting a raw deal when it comes to the rollout of the NBN and the internet in general.

“The people South West Sydney should not be treated like second class citizens when it comes to internet access,” Ms Stanley said.

In light of the Turnbull Government’s recent abandonment of their plan to utilise the Optus cable network, the MP says she has written to NBN Co asking when residents of Werriwa can expect to gain access to the NBN.

“At a meeting I had with representatives of NBN Co last month, I was informed that a large portion of the NBN rollout in Werriwa was to be completed with hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) technology,’’ Ms Stanley said.

“With the decision not to proceed with the use of HFC via the Optus network, I am concerned about how the NBN rollout will be impacted in our area.

“As it stands, the decaying state of the aging telecommunications infrastructure in our area mean that many families cannot access broadband at all.

“I have made specific reference to the areas where HFC was to be employed, namely West Hoxton, Hoxton Park, Miller, Liverpool, Macquarie Links, Lurnea and Casula.

“We’ve experienced enough delays waiting for Mr Turnbull’s ‘faster, cheaper’ NBN.

“With this many changes to the network, many of my constituents are beginning to wonder if they will ever be connected to the NBN.”

Ms Stanley called on residents in the area who were dissatisfied with the quality of their internet access to contact her office and share their story on 9829 7477 or email anne.stanley.mp@aph.gov.au

“It is important that we stand up and tell Mr Turnbull that further delays are simply not good enough.

While the infrastructure in Werriwa is stretched to its limit, Ms Stanley said in some cases her office is also able to assist local residents and businesses with representations to service providers.
