Work on the restoration of the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan’s mountain bike trail is on track with completion expected early next year.

The NSW Government has joined forces with Wollondilly Macarthur Mountain Bike Club to restore the track following the removal of invasive weeds.

“The restored trail will provide a great off-road outdoor space for families and mountain bike riders from across Greater Sydney to enjoy,” says Member for Camden Peter Sidgreaves.

“Sydneysiders love being outside and I’m sure this trail will be popular with locals who like to break a sweat and those who prefer a relaxing bike ride through the bush.

Planning and Public Spaces Minister Rob Stokes said the restored bike trail will be a huge win for mountain bike enthusiasts and lovers of the outdoors.

“This is a fantastic example of the NSW Government’s commitment to working with and supporting the local community to deliver high quality public spaces and get more people outdoors to enjoy our amazing landscapes,” Mr Stokes said.

The NSW Government has provided more than $15,000 in funding for the trail’s restoration, with IMB Bank contributing $5,600.

Wollondilly Macarthur Mountain Bike Club president Wes Turner said the club is undertaking the project on behalf of all mountain bike riders across the community.

“From young families to experienced riders looking for a challenge, sharing and growing our sport is what it’s all about and the trail will fill a much-needed gap for mountain bike trails across the Greater Sydney region,” Mr Turner said.

“The track will be suitable for families and those new to mountain biking, allowing them to enjoy cycling off-road and in an environment free of motor vehicles.

“For the more experienced riders in the sport, there will also be fun and challenging features to explore in the trail network.”

The family loop will be the first stage to be restored and is expected to re-open in the first quarter of 2020.

This initial 4km of trail will also include a beginner friendly 1km short trail suitable for new riders and young riders.
