Six new locations in Hume will receive boosted mobile phone coverage as round five of the Federal Government’s mobile black spot program is rolled out in the next few months.

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor (pictured) has announced that a small cell base station will be installed at the following locations in his electorate, which includes large parts of the Camden and Wollondilly areas:

·         Goodman’s Ford (Telstra)

·         Lakesland (Optus)

·         New Wollondilly (Telstra)

·         Werombi (Optus)

·         Wombeyan Caves (Optus)

·         Yerranderie (Telstra)

Mr Taylor, who is also energy minister, said this was great news once again for Hume.

He said up until now 24 base stations have been funded under the program, with 13 already complete.

Mr Taylor said small cell base stations would typically deliver 4G mobile coverage across an area of a couple of kilometres.

“I’m thrilled that residents and businesses in these locations will soon be able to enjoy all the benefits that improved mobile connectivity brings,” he said.

“Now more than ever it is crucial we stay connected and these base stations will ensure that residents living within these areas or those travelling through can make phone calls and use mobile data.”

The announcement of 182 successful Round 5 base stations means a total of 1,229 base stations are being delivered under the mobile black spot program.

Round 4 base stations announced last year including Bungonia, Reids Flat, Tuena, Wayo and Wombeyan Caves Campground will all be completed by mid 2020.

A new base station at Frogmore was switched on earlier this month.
