Deb Gurung, who is running as an independent candidate with Community Voice Australia in the Liverpool City Council South Ward by-election on April 18, says he’s committed to restoring trust in council, improving essential services, and protecting vital community assets.

The father of three children and a long-time Liverpool resident is one of 11 candidates who have thrown their hats in the ring.

Mr Gurung is a former Australian Army veteran, with more than three decades of distinguished service across both the British and Australian Army.

During his military career, he was awarded multiple medals for his service during warlike operations and peacekeeping missions.

An active member of Liverpool’s multicultural community, he says he brings valuable lived experience and proven leadership to public service.

His contributions extend beyond the military, with the broader Sydney community recognising his efforts on numerous occasions, including being honoured twice by Liverpool City Council.

“I am passionate about delivering practical outcomes and ensuring that residents’ voices are genuinely heard and represented,’’ he said.

“I have always put the community first and will be a strong, dedicated voice for the residents of Liverpool South Ward.’’
