Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.

When the year’s almost over and a new one about to start is a pretty good time for a little reflection.

We all know 2018 has been a year of highs and lows but what’s important is that we got through it and here we are on another Christmas Eve a year older and – hopefully – a year wiser.

As the editor of the South West Voice in Macarthur, for me one of the greatest joys in 2018 was meeting so many of the wonderful people who live and work in our corner of the world.

Some of you even allowed me to tell your stories and for that honour and privilege I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

But now to the most important people of all – our readers, without whom we would be nothing.

This has been true since the beginning of the dissemination of news, from town criers to local newspapers, from wireless radio broadcasts to network TV bulletins.

And of course now in the digital age there is yet another platform: online news, arguably the most democratic media form of all time.

Personally, it is very humbling that so many of you connect with our news website every day.

I’ve enjoyed every moment of your engagement and interaction, both positive and critical.

I hope you can keep it coming in 2019.

And so as this year ends I’d like to thank you all for being part of the journey.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
