Greg Warren has a spring in his step and a smile on his face. That’s not just because yesterday the NSW Premier, Chris Minns, announced that he had appointed the member for Campbelltown as parliamentary secretary.
The way Mr Warren sees it, now he can deliver even more for Campbelltown.
Mr Warren surprisingly missed out on a ministerial appointment following Labor’s election victory on March 25, and it’s fair to say he was a little disappointed – as were a lot people across Campbelltown.
But he’s a team player so got on with business.
Four weeks after Labor won office, Mr Warren got a phone call from Mr Minns to tell him he was being promoted to three parliamentary secretary roles, all assisting deputy premier Prue Car, who is also minister for education and early learning, as well as Western Sydney.
“Very humbled, it’s a privilege to serve in the parliament and it’s even more of a privilege to be elected to government,’’ Mr Warren tells the South West Voice when we sit down at a Dumaresq Street café today to discuss his promotion.
“Campbelltown always comes first, and to be in a position where I can make a more constructive contribution to do the things we need to do as a government – especially education and Western and South Western Sydney – is a privilege.
“But this isn’t about me; there are so many more important issues in and around South Western Sydney we live with every day here in Campbelltown that are far more important than any ambitions I have for myself,’’ he says.
“I am a team player and my politics is not about me.’’
We asked Mr Warren to explain to our readers what a parliamentary secretary does.
He said that he would be working hand in hand with the minister, Prue Car, to achieve the government agenda.
“I will be doing whatever the minister requires me to do. And be available any time when the minister requires me for anything.’’
Mr Warren said that this afternoon he had a scheduled meeting with Ms Car.
“We’ll sit down and work out what we’re doing in the next week, next month, so I’ll know what I need to do,’’ he said.
Congratulations Greg, that is an influential role directly supporting our Premier and I could not think of a more capable candidate than our Greg Warren 😀
