Meg Oates will just shrug off the inevitable tributes that come her way in the next few weeks as she celebrates 30 years on Campbelltown City Council.
Cr Oates has always been about getting on with the job since her election as a councillor for the first time on September 26, 1987.
The pats on the back started this week when the State Member for Campbelltown Greg Warren paid tribute to Cr Oates in parliament.
“The 26th September marks 30 years of service by Meg to the people of Campbelltown and Campbelltown City Council and so I was delighted to welcome her along with her family and friends, the mayor and general manager to parliament to acknowledge this momentous occasion with a community recognition statement,’’ Mr Warren said.
Cr Meg Oates, son and daughter Ross and Kim, as well as Campbelltown mayor George Brticevic and the council general manager Lindy Deitz sat in the public gallery when Mr Warren delivered his tribute.
“I rise to acknowledge a truly remarkable and wonderful woman, who has given so much to the City of Campbelltown,’’ Mr Warren said.
“I refer to my dear friend Councillor Meg Oates, who on 26 September this year will celebrate 30 years as a councillor on Campbelltown City Council.
“During this time she has served as mayor for four separate terms and currently is serving as deputy mayor of our great city,’’ Mr Warren told the parliament.

“I ask the House to join me in thanking Councillor Oates for her 30 years of distinguished service to the people of the City of Campbelltown, and note that she continues to contribute to our people and beautiful city.
“There is no greater example of the nature of our good people than Meg Oates and the contributions she has made to Campbelltown and our region.’’
