Residents, businesses and community groups are being encouraged to share the festive spirit and help the less fortunate by donating to the Campbelltown Mayor’s Annual Christmas Appeal.
The appeal starts tomorrow, Wednesday, November 21 and donations will be accepted until Wednesday December 19.
Residents are invited to donate new and unwrapped toys, gifts and non-perishable food items.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic said Christmas was a special time to share with your family and friends but sadly, it was not a joyful time for everyone.
“For struggling families in our community, Christmas can be an extremely difficult time if they cannot afford to buy presents to put under the tree or food for a special Christmas dinner,’’ he said.
“This is why we are calling on our generous and kind-hearted community to help make Christmas a little brighter for struggling families by donating to the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.’’
People can place their donations in the Christmas donation box located in the main foyer of Council’s Civic Centre, on the corner of Queen and Broughton Streets.
Second-hand or wrapped items are unable to be accepted.
Donations can also be left in collection boxes at council’s four branch libraries at Campbelltown’s HJ Daley Library, Eagle Vale Library, Greg Percival Library, at Ingleburn, and Glenquarie Library, at Macquarie Fields.
There will also be a collection box at Campbelltown City Christmas Carols at the Athletics Centre at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Saturday, December, 1 near the council information tent.
All Christmas appeal donations will go to the Macarthur Combined Churches to be distributed at their annual Christmas lunch at Campbelltown Civic Hall on Christmas Day.
Last year, more than 300 gifts were given to the residents who attended the Christmas Day lunch.
