There’s no doubt Meet the Mayor Mondays is one of the best initiatives from a Campbelltown mayor for many years.
That’s certainly what you, our readers, think about it.
Mayor Darcy Lound’s idea to go out and engage with the ratepayers of Campbelltown was launched at Minto Mall a couple of weeks ago.
Minto is of course Mayor Lound’s patch, having lived in the suburb all his life.
The next iteration of Meet the Mayor Mondays has now been revealed.
Mayor Lound and his council team will be heading to Rosemeadow Marketplace on Monday, April 14.
They will be there from 11am and until 1pm, so if you’d like to have the Mayor’s ear for an issue close to your heart, this is your chance.
Or you can just ask him any question you like, from rates to Campbelltown’s growing population, or even the cost of running the billabong.
Someone who is backing Mayor Darcy Lound is his Labor colleague Dr Mike Freelander, the member for Macarthur.
In a recent interview with the South West Voice we asked him for his assessment of Mayor Lound since he got the top job.
“I think Darcy Lound, the mayor, is doing a fantastic job, I really do,’’ Dr Freelander said.
“I have a lot of admiration for him – he’s not after the mayoral position for his own self interest – he’s given up his day job to be able to do the mayor’s job, so he’s devoting all his time to the council.’’
Dr Freelander also praised Campbelltown Council, saying they’re “doing some good things’’.
“They’ve been left with some disasters from previous councils, the billabong being one of them,’’ he said.
“And that is a problem for them because obviously the billabong maintenance cost is huge, and that’s not the fault of the current council, they’ve got to somehow try to mitigate that.’’
