Campbelltown Mayor Darcy Lound has reached out to the owners of the shops damaged when a ute with a bullbar was driven into them just after midnight on Tuesday.
Shopfronts in Queen Street as well as Dumaresq Street were impacted in the incident.
“What happened isn’t a reflection of our great community and I know our strength and resilience when we all come together is what makes Campbelltown stronger,’’ the mayor said.
“Our local small businesses are the heart of our city, and I know our community will continue to support them as they get back on their feet.’’
The mayor visited the main street (pictured above) to see the damage first hand, and also engaged with some of the business owners.
“What I saw was community spirit and passionate business owners, who love their city and are keen to get back to business as soon as possible,’’ Mayor Lound said.
“Many had already opened their doors after a quick response from the police, countless tradespeople and council.
“One business, which had been significantly impacted, had already begun turning their shopfront’s temporary plywood hoarding into a beautiful mural to ensure a welcoming space for the children and their families who will visit for birthday parties.
“Thanks Hannah, for asking me to place a hand on the mural. I look forward to seeing it when it’s complete.
“Thanks to our tireless police, business community, tradespeople and locals who came together to respond quickly,’’ he said.
“A big shout out to our own council staff, who sprung swiftly into action to make the street safe for the community and provide support,’’ he said.
Campbelltown City Council quickly deployed several teams in the aftermath, to assisting affected businesses, to help them return to normal as soon as possible.
Council workers also helped by lending a hand with some street and footpath clean-up and advice.
A 47 year old Rosemeadow man has appeared in court to face charges related to the incident.
