After putting together the story about the Greater Sydney Commission vision for a city called Bradfield around the second airport at Badgerys Creek I couldn’t help thinking maybe the wrong Turnbull was in charge of the country.
Sorry, Malcolm, but you could learn a thing or two from Lucy, your wife and chairperson of the above Commission.
Let’s start with the clear vision: Lucy Turnbull outlines a bold and achievable plan for a great city based around the second airport but sustained by what she called the string of pearls such as Camden and Campbelltown.
She got that right.
Given city level infrastructure such as heavy rail built for the next 100 years not the next 10, our city of Bradfield would give the other two, one based around Parramatta and the other obviously Sydney, a run for their money.
But back to Turnbull’s remarkably crystal clear vision: she says the goal is about everyone living within 30 minutes of everything, from jobs to airports.
This is exactly how we will solve the current madness of people travelling for three hours every day to get to and from work around the metropolitan area.
And finally, Lucy Turnbull is not afraid to have a go: she calls for this new city to be called Bradfield, the great builder and engineer behind the Sydney Harbour Bridge and other major infrastructure projects of 100 years ago.
So the Prime Minister’s wife is clearly someone who can see the big picture and is not afraid to seize the day in making it a reality.
Can you, Lucy Turnbull, please now talk to your husband about how to become a little more decisive.
An entire nation would be very grateful indeed for your intervention.
I might no agree with all of it……but at least a conversation has been started which is a really good start …….and not some ineffectual politician either
@paulhaigh12 Are we running an oligarchy? If she wants to be the “power behind the throne” then stand for parliament.
@paulhaigh12 bloody liberal!
Maybe we need someone who is not a politician in charge of what we actually need and what is best for the greater good
