Police will update the media this afternoon following the arrest and charge of a man over the death of Scott Hammond at Tahmoor almost five years ago.
Detective Superintendent Ward Hanson of Camden Police Area Command will brief the media outside Narellan Police Station from 1.30pm.
Police investigating the bashing death of the Tahmoor man in 2013 arrested a man during police raids at Heckenberg earlier today.
The body of Scott Hammond, aged 48, was discovered about 5.30pm on Monday, July 1, 2013 after emergency services were called to his house on Ibbotson Street.
The alarm was raised after an acquaintance of Scott Hammond’s became concerned for his welfare and contacted police.
Strike Force Hewitt, comprising detectives from Camden Police Area Command, was formed to investigate the events surrounding Scott’s death.
Post mortem examination results showed Scott died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.
A man was arrested during an operation at Heckenberg, near Liverpool, conducted by strike force investigators this morning.
The Heckenberg resident was taken to Narellan Police Station where he was charged with one count of murder.
Camden Police Area Commander Detective Superintendent Ward Hanson said today’s result was a tribute to the hard work and tenacity of the investigative team.
“Many of the investigative team on the strike force have been on this case since day one,” Detective Superintendent Hanson said.
“Today’s result came about through persistence, old fashioned policing and tugging on coats.
“At the time of Scott’s death his mother Josie said his family hoped there will eventually be a close to an incredibly sad chapter in their family history.
“Unfortunately, Josie passed before this day could arrive.”
