The switch to a twilight Fisher’s Ghost Street parade has ramped up the excitement level for one of the biggest events of the year in Campbelltown and Macarthur.
One of the highlights of the annual Festival of Fisher’s Ghost, this year’s street parade will get under way from 7pm on Saturday, November 3.
This year participants can choose one of two themes: Light and Life Under the Sea and the Legend of Fisher’s Ghost.
Either way, if your community group, business, organisation, school or sporting club plans to enter a float you’d better make tracks because registrations close next week, on Wednesday, October 10.
This year council will hold free workshops at Campbelltown Arts Centre for participants to help with lighting up the parade.
Council will provide all materials and an artist will be on hand to help participants create their underwater masterpiece.
Prize money will be up for grabs for best parade entries across a range of categories, including first and second overall, and best themed sporting team, performance group, wheels and hooves, community organisation or local club, cultural group, school, band, and youth band.
Winners will be announced online during the festival.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said the street parade was a great way to celebrate the city’s community spirit.
“This year we’re starting at 7pm, which is a great opportunity to bring Queen Street to life with plenty of colourful lights on our floats,” he said.
“Our two themes this year mean people can stick with a traditional ghostly tribute to the Fisher’s Ghost legend, or opt for a colourful ocean-going theme as mermaids, pirates and everything nautical.’’
