Not everyone agrees Macarthur premiership one horse race again

East Campbelltown Eagles hosted the Oakdale Workers at Waminda Oval yesterday in round 11 of the 2025 Wests Group Macarthur rugby league premiership.

With half a dozen under 19s players in their side, the gallant Eagles just couldn’t match the class of the more experienced Oakdale side.

The home side never gave up, scoring a try with four minutes left to make the final score of 40-22 more respectable.

Joshua Carr scored four tries for Oakdale, half of their eight try haul for the game.

The Workers, who are one of the few teams that may challenge Camden Rams for the title in 2025, are in second place after 11 rounds.

There’s a four point gap between them and the undefeated competition leaders Camden Rams.

Last year the Rams won the comp undefeated and many pundits, including those that hark back to the good old days of Group 6, as the competition used to be known as, are convinced the 2025 race is already run.

Just give Camden the trophy and be done is their mantra, but ask officials from some of the clubs and they will disagree.

It may sound like wishful thinking to suggest someone is capable of stopping the Camden juggernaut, but plenty are doing just that.

Oakdale Workers certainly look capable of mounting a challenge, although yesterday’s outing at Waminda against a team of youngsters is not a good marker.

Back on the competition ladder, another Campbelltown club, the Collegians, are running third, with The Oaks Tigers in fourth, with Campbelltown City Kangaroos making up the top five.

Mittagong Lions and Picton Magpies are the two sides sitting just outside the top five and with a good chance to be there at the end if they can snatch a few wins between now and finals time.

But the question remains: who will stand up to Camden?
