Macarthur FC let Kiwis off the hook

For most of last night’s round 15 match at Campbelltown Stadium the Bulls were on top of Wellington Phoenix.

Macarthur FC opened the scoring after 15 minutes, courtesy of another brilliant assist from Jed Drew, who broke free on the right flank and put the ball on a plate for Jake Hollman to slot past the Nix goalkeeper.

With Socceroos coach Tony Popovic an interested observer, the Bulls even dominated possession, something that hasn’t happened often this season.

For the rest of the first half, and almost 20 minutes of the second half, it looked like it was a matter of time before the Bulls would score again – and open the floodgates.

But the Nix, the bogey team of Macarthur, just hung in and hung in, and eventually they got a big reward, a 2-1 win and three premiership points.

As for the Bulls, frustration set in as a result of not being able to score a second goal.

Frustration meant they got a little sloppy when they had the ball.

They did it one too many times around the 63rd minute and the Kiwis capitalised to draw level.

Just six minutes later the Nix were in the clear, and Bulls goalie Filip Kurto gave away a penalty in trying to stop them from scoring.

But Nix scored from the spot and suddenly the Bulls bogey team were at it again.

Bulls lifted somewhat after that, and missed a few chances, but it was all for nothing.

The loss means they have dropped to sixth on the ladder, just as the business end of the season gets under way.

Next up is another home game at Campbelltown Stadium this Saturday night when they host Melbourne City – third on the ladder – in round 16, kick off 7.35pm.
