What about us? Luddenham stalls while Bradfield takes off

Luddenham Progress Association says it’s concerned Bradfield is getting preferential treatment from the state government.

It says that while approval of new housing plans for Luddenham Village remains indefinitely delayed pending completion of noise contours for the second runway at Western Sydney International airport, Bradfield’s Superlot 1 has been released for mixed‑use development, at least 1000 homes and commercial and retail space.

Preliminary flight paths for Western Sydney Airport were released in June 2023 and the new Luddenham Village area was not affected.

The association says this selective approach is “unacceptable and risks deepening mistrust between government and our community’’.

In a media release issued yesterday, the association wants immediate implementation of the Luddenham Village Interim Strategy for new housing on land not affected by verified flight path or noise constraints.

It is also demanding a clear, public explanation for the different treatment between Bradfield Superlot 1 and new Luddenham Village, including any role government land ownership played.

Transparent, time‑bound cross‑agency work to resolve any genuine noise planning issues for the small proportion of land that may be affected by future runway scenarios is another demand from the association.

It is also seeking a formal commitment to a staged approval pathway that allows shovel‑ready development in Luddenham to proceed immediately.

“Luddenham Village is shovel ready,’’ says Wayne Willmington, president of the Luddenham Progress Association.

“It is unacceptable and un-Australian for the government to prioritise sales of its own land at Bradfield, which lies 2.7kms from the second runway, while blocking homes for our community because of unknown impacts from the second runway on land which is almost 1km further from the second runway than the government owned land in Bradfield approved for development.

“There are no more excuses,’’ he said.

“The evidence is clear that none of the Luddenham Village extension is affected by flight paths or noise contours.

“We call on the NSW Government to implement the Luddenham Village Interim Strategy without further delay and to treat our community with the same urgency shown to Bradfield,’’ Mr Willmington said.
