Products made by an innovative local company could play a key role in the response to the combustible cladding challenge.

Deco Australia, a building product and metal finishing manufacturer located at Minto, says it wants governments to consider local companies when it comes to such building projects.

Deco director Ross Doonan says the company’s timber look solid aluminium building products such as DecoClad and DecoBatten offered a home made, viable solution to the cladding situation in Australia.

“Our governments, local, state and federal, should be made aware of this,’’ Mr Doonan said yesterday after hosting local Labor MP Anoulack Chanthivong at the Minto plant.

The Member for Macquarie Fields said he toured Deco’s facility to broaden his understanding of the technical manufacturing processes of their aluminium architectural products and industrial finishes.

Mr Chanthivong said he also wanted to gain an insight into the company’s extensive in-house testing and research facilities.

“Deco is a world class, innovative local business manufacturing excellent products and providing local jobs for the fast growing South West Sydney region,” Mr Chanthivong said.

Mr Doonan, left, with MP Anoulack Chanthivong in the Deco premises at Minto yesterday.

The MP said he was impressed with the company’s sublimation and anodising capabilities, and how these could provide more durable, long lasting and low maintenance options for a range of applications within governments, transport industries and the defence force.

While there Mr Chanthivong also discussed the combustible cladding crisis with Mr Doonan.

“What governments of all levels need to know that there are attractive, durable, fire safe materials available right here,” Mr Doonan said.

“Government bodies have the option to specify quality, Australian made products which they can rely on to comply with Australian Standards as well as supporting Australian manufacturers at the same time.”

He said government support was required to ensure a thriving manufacturing sector in Australia.
