Kylie Seymour started umpiring in hockey for pocket money and ended up officiating at the 2016 Olympic Games.

At the age of 11 Kylie Seymour decided that hockey umpiring may be a good way to make some pocket money.

She approached  Campbelltown City Women’s Hockey Association and the rest is history.

She is now one of the most well known home grown sporting personalities in the Macarthur region.

Kylie has officiated at the Hockey Champions Trophy in London and Argentina as well as the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

She went one better in 2016 when following impeccable performances Kylie was chosen for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

In 2017 Kylie received the prestigious Official of the Year at the NSW Sports Awards.

Now she’s won another honour – the local State MP’s 2018 woman of the year award.

Greg Warren says Kylie is an “outstanding example of all of the many amazing women in our region who work every day to make Campbelltown a better place’’.

Mr Warren announced that he would be introducing a perpetual plaque to be kept on display in his electorate office to honour and acknowledge each recipient of the woman of the year award.

He says it’s the first award of its kind amongst state parliamentarians, and will serve as an ongoing reminder of all the women who generously give their time to make a difference in people’s lives and the local environment.

Mr Warren visited an assembly at St Francis Catholic College to present Kylie Seymour with the award, and to congratulate her on her extensive record as a hockey umpire.

There are not many more important things we must do than recognise the important and vital contributions women make in so many different capacities in our community, and it’s great to be able to do just that by surprising Kylie with this award,’’ he said.

“Kylie has an impeccable record as a first rate umpire and her record in making the tough decisions at a national and international level demonstrates that.

“It is important that we remember the officials who make the running of all sporting codes possible and recognise their achievements.”
