This Australia Day, Liverpool will crank up the heat when 2014 X-Factor’s Jessica Jade will be one of the star attractions of the entertainment program at Woodward Park.
Jessica, who of course also hails from the Liverpool area, will deliver a set at Liverpool Council’s Australia Day event, including pop hits Price Tag by Jessie J, which she performed on X-Factor in front of James Blunt with her urban girl group, Trill; Love me Harder by Ariana Grande & The Weekend with local RnB singer Amos; plus an acoustic version of Pretty Hurts by Beyonce.
Jessica has been singing and performing since the age of 11; she started off competing at local shopping centres for two years before her big break when she competed in Mounties Got Talent 2013, where she came third aged just 13.
At the age of 14 she was discovered and signed by Caplice Management. At this time, she formed urban girl group Trill with two other vocalists. They auditioned for X-Factor 2014, getting through and eventually finishing in the top 12.
This year, Jessica is focused on collaborating with other artists, songwriters and producers in writing music with the aim to having a complete EP released sometime during the next two years, and at the same time finishing Years 11/ 12 of high school.
Also on this year’s Liverpool Australia Day entertainment program will be an explosive performance by Samantha Jade (X-Factor winner 2012) who is ready to turn it Up! with her latest release Sweet Talk.
There will be solo and joint performances by the X-Factor’s soulful Tee and the mesmerising Chaska (xox).
The day starts from 3pm, and includes the presentations to the 2015 Australia Day citizens of the year and a citizenship ceremony. A fireworks display at 9pm will conclude this year’s Australia Day celebrations at Liverpool.
Liverpool City Mayor Ned Mannoun said there would be entertainment of all kinds around the park from daylight to dusk with a firework spectacular that will light up the sky.
Families will be in their element with children’s activities including the adorable Lalaloopsy Girls, roaming characters and a selection of cultural performances featured throughout the festival program.
This inclusive event offers an affordable day out with free entry, rides at just $2 a ticket, plus the option to pack your own picnic. There will also be shade and dining areas at which the community can recharge between activities and a water refill station for water bottles.
Liverpool’s Australia Day isn’t short on variety with a stack of carnival food stalls, with interactive games run by the Liverpool Youth Council and a Samantha Jade inspired Sweet Talk lolly guessing competition with a chance to take home a giant jar of sweets.
“This event is sure to top previous years’ celebrations with our Australia Day 2014 attracting a crowd of 30,000 people,’’ Mayor Mannoun said.
He said Liverpool is taking it up a notch this year by putting on a show stopping event that will intrigue all ages and embraces Australian themes with a best dressed competition.
The Australiana arena will put the spotlight on Australia’s traditional activities and will include sheep shearing and whip cracking.
“We are never too shy to pull-out all stops for our community and we want to invite everyone else to come along for the ride as we embrace the diversity of Liverpool and the beautiful place we call home,’’ he said.
“Australia Day to me is about celebrating the traditional custodians of the land, embracing each other’s differences and replicating the true Australiana spirit by having a good time,” he said.
The Citizenship and Australia Day Awards and Order of Liverpool Awards Ceremony will also be held in Woodward Park as part of the celebrations.
There will be free parking available off Memorial Avenue.
