A little help from Angelina’s friends goes a long way

Friends come to the aid of Angelina, who has leukemia.
All for Angelina: one of the initiatives at the fundraiser at St Peters Anglican primary school.

Angelina is a Year 2 student at St Peter’s Anglican Primary School.

Angelina has leukemia.

Angelina has a lot of very good and loyal friends, especially her classmates at St Peters.

That much was obvious last week when a pink and white mufti day was held at the school to raise funds to pay for Angelina’s treatment.

Fellow students, teachers and parents went the extra yard to make sure the day was as big a success as possible.

Everyone who attended the day helped celebrate the life and friendship of Angelina by wearing her favourite colour, decorating classrooms with pink streamers, baking more than  500 cupcakes and enjoying a puppet show performed by Camp Quality.

Angelina was diagnosed with leukaemia in December 2014, going into remission until December the following year.

Her treatment here in Australia, and potentially abroad, is ongoing, which means the need for as much monetary help as possible.

The special day certainly impressed one special guest: the State Member for Campbelltown, Greg Warren, who made a personal visit to Angelina’s grade.

MP impressed with Angelina's friends.
In the pink: Mr Warren drops in on Angelina’s class.

There he met some of Angelina’s closest friends and spoke with them about the values of friendship.

“We have to look after each other, because at the end of the day that’s the most important thing,’’ Mr Warren said afterwards.

“It is striking and heart warming to see such young people banding behind their classmate for moral and financial support.

“Looking around and seeing this type of generosity proves that we are doing something right with the way we raise our young people in Campbelltown.

“I am incredibly saddened by the circumstances under which I attended St Peter’s Anglican Primary School, but seeing how appreciative and respectful classmates and teachers are towards Angelina and her family offers a ray of light at an otherwise challenging time,” he said.

Mr Warren’s sentiments were echoed by the school headmaster, Brendan Gorman:

“The desire of our community to come together to work for a common purpose and to rally for Angelina is simply brilliant,” he said.

“I commend our parent community, each of the students and staff who uphold Angelina and her parents in prayer and continue to support in whatever way possible”
