The Mittagong Lions have emerged from round seven of the Macarthur conference as the undisputed favourites to take out this year’s premiership.
Playing away from home against Campbelltown Collegians, another club that could be a contender, the Southern Highlands side were too good, winning 48-18 on Sunday at Bradbury Oval.
Collies were not disgraced by the result and now have a very good idea of the level of rugby league required to win this great competition.
Following their victory, the Lions skipped to a three-point lead over second placed Camden Rams.
Mittagong have amassed 14 points so far, while Camden, who also won away from home, are on 11 points.
The Rams defeated rivals East Campbelltown 26-22 at Waminda Oval to also stake a claim to honours this season.
The Camden victory was built off the back of a great performance by their halves, Jackson Willis and Brad Speechley, who set up all six tries.
John Ryan scored a hat trick and Logan Matapuku went over for a double for the Rams.
In the other games, The Oaks Tigers defeated Campbelltown City Kangaroos to join Camden in equal second place on the ladder with 11 points.
Thirlmere Roosters, despite a two point loss to the Magpies in Picton, are clinging to fourth spot with 10 points.
Oakdale Workers are fifth with eight points following their 22-10 win over the South West Goannas in Camden.
Collegians and Picton are also on eight points.
The competition goes into recess this weekend, utilising one of two scheduled wet weather back ups.
It means round eight will be played the following weekend, on Sunday, May 28. The full draw is below.
