Light at the end of the tunnel for Wests Tigers

The next two weeks could make or break any hopes Wests Tigers have of making the finals in 2025.

Coming off a bye last weekend, they fly to North Queensland this Saturday to take on the Cowboys.

They return home to prepare for the clash with Penrith Panthers at Commbank Stadium on Sunday, June 8, followed by another bye a week later.

Both the Cowboys and Penrith are beatable right now, but they key will be whether the Tigers will be focused, following the Lachlan Galvin departure to the Bulldogs this week.

Fans will be hoping the players can put the Galvin soap opera behind them and concentrate on winning games to give themselves the best chance of playing finals footy this season.

Two wins, coupled with a bye before and after these two games would mean eight premiership points, which would push the Tigers close to the top eight, if not just inside it.

There’s no doubt Galvin gone is a better situation for the Tigers than before.

Hopefully head coach Benji Marshall and the senior players can help the squad regroup and focus on the job at hand.

There was some good news at the club this week, with impressive young forward Tony Sukkar extending his stay at the Tigers until the end of the 2026 season.

The 21-year-old local junior, pictured above, has made four NRL appearances since debuting in the last match of the club’s 2024 campaign, impressing with his strong running and high work rate.

An NRL development player in 2024, Sukkar joined the Wests Tigers top 30 squad this season and has proven a handful in his three top grade appearances to date in 2025.

“I have loved coming through the pathways system here at the Wests Tigers,” Sukkar said.

“I’m stoked to be here for another season and cannot wait to rip in and continue developing as a player.”

Coach Benji Marshall praised Sukkar’s contribution to the squad.

“Tony has worked extremely hard and continues to grow and develop into a regular first grade player. We are excited to have him remain part of the club,” Marshall said.
