Male drivers need to lift their game, as their female counterparts are beating them almost two to one in a scheme that rewards good driving in NSW.
Across the state, of the 850,000 motorists who have taken advantage of the Fair go for Safer Drivers initiative, almost 500,000 are female, leaving just 350,000 male drivers doing the right thing on the road.
“Guys, we need to lift our game,’’ says the Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Roads Ray Williams, who joined Member for Campbelltown Bryan Doyle last week to announce thousands of drivers in Campbelltown were enjoying half price licences thanks to Fair Go for Safer Drivers.
The initiative rewards safe drivers and gives drivers with a five year good driving record a 50 per cent discount on their licence fees.
“It is fantastic to be in Campbelltown today announcing that in the past two and a half years, over 9,775 drivers in the Campbelltown electorate have saved half their licence fee,” Mr Williams said.
“It is such a great initiative, not only does it reward good drivers and provide a real incentive to encourage better driver behaviour in others but it also gives money back to NSW communities.
“Across the state, more than 850,000 safe drivers are enjoying this discount and together about $70 million has been saved.
“Blokes, we know almost 500,000 drivers who have received this discount are women – so guys we need to lift our game,’’ Mr Williams said.
“This is another great example of the NSW Government delivering for the community,” Mr Doyle said.
“It is fantastic to think so many drivers in the Campbelltown community have walked into a registry and received a real and immediate benefit, many walking away with up to $85 in their pockets.
“Any measure that makes our roads safer while at the same time helping cut the cost of living for families is a winner.”
The scheme allows all motorists with an unrestricted licence (one, three and five year) and no relevant offences for five years to get the discount.
