Library's let's talk legal program in award honour
Award honour: Cat Thomas and Jennifer Rosevear from Campbelltown City Library Service, Robert Pelletier and Christina Pirina from Macarthur Legal Centre and the Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic.

A Campbelltown City Library Service program which connects residents with free legal advice and information has won a major award.

The program received the LIAC Centre of Excellence Award at the Law and Justice Foundation of NSW annual Justice Awards.

The Let’s Talk Legal series of talks are presented by qualified legal professionals from Macarthur Legal Centre, in partnership with Campbelltown City Library Service.

The program provides individuals and community organisations with advice and information in an easy to understand manner, with additional assistance via one-on-one consultation or legal resources, including the Find Legal Answers Toolkit and Find Legal Answers website.

The theme of some talks was chosen to coincide with special events throughout the year, including Youth Week and Seniors Week.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, accepted the award on behalf of Council’s Library Service at the awards presentation event at Parliament House last Thursday saying the Let’s Talk Legal program provided an important service to the community.

“The program is a collaboration between Macarthur Legal Centre, which has the expertise and the professionals to provide legal advice, and council’s libraries, which have the community reach, online resources and provide a relaxed, trusted and friendly environment,” he said.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“The pilot program in 2016 was a big success, with the first session – Elder law issues: wills, financial management and guardianship – booked out, and requests for follow up talks on the topic.[/social_quote]

“The 2017 program was refined based on participant feedback, attendance at talks and the need for information on a particular topic.

“Campbelltown local government area is growing and developing, and council is committed to supporting our changing community through innovative programs like Let’s Talk Legal.”
