Time to call it a day on domestic violence against our women: Wear it Purple day at Benevolent Society headquarters in Queen Street, Campbelltown.

The Benevolent Society operating across Macarthur in Camden, Campbelltown and Wollondilly has been awarded $150,000 from the Commonwealth Government to help address domestic violence.

The Building Safe Communities for Women grant will deliver workshops and training packages to business and schools, as well engaging police and community services to raise awareness of domestic and family violence.

The Federal Member for Macarthur, Russell Matheson, said the funding will contribute to making a practical and sustained difference to the lives of women experiencing violence through the Women’s domestic violence prevention Macarthur project.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“We should all be working together to end the prevalence of domestic violence in Australia,” Mr Matheson said.[/social_quote]

“One in six Australian women has experienced violence from a current or former partner.

“This grant recognises that we all must work together—governments, organisations and communities—to support women and their children experiencing violence, and to prevent it from happening in the first place.”

The funding for the Building Safe Communities for Women grant is a Commonwealth Government initiative under the National Plan to reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-2022.
