Leather craft workshops get started this Sunday, November 22 at Casula Powerhouse.
The workshops continue until December 20.
Week 1 is a beginners class. In this casual, fun class participants will learn to emboss (stamp), dye, seal and stitch on a simple item like a coaster, working on veg tanned leather.
They will learn the basic fundamentals and traditional techniques from leathercraft professional Silvia Guerrera, who will carry the class members through all of their projects, including tools and their many uses. This class really is an eye opener to the world of leather for someone with no prior knowledge.
Come in and join all the fun. Beginners to advanced are all welcome.
Week 2 is Belt Making, where participants will be taught proper belt making principals.
They will then either emboss (stamp) on a natural veg tanned leather belt length to then dye in their choice of colour, or get creative by adding bling like conchos and embellishments to an already coloured belt length. This is also a fun workshop which can also apply to dog collars!
Week 3 to 5 is titled Tooling a Wallet and is where you learn the art of carving and bevelling on your own wallet with a design of your choice on the outer leather.
Craftaid templates will be provided or you can come with a design of your own.
You will have a choice of insert to purchase which can include card holder slots, coin purse or windows. This will be followed by colouring and assembly of your wallet using stitching or lacing methods.
This is a rewarding project and ideal for that special Christmas gift.

$150 for the complete program (5 x 4 hour sessions); as individual projects may vary, additional materials will be required. Based on previous workshops, this will range between $50 – 80 for weeks 2 – 5.
