A man will appear in court today charged after allegedly pointing a laser at a NSW Police aircraft from a Glen Alpine residence last night.

About 9.45pm yesterday PolAir3 – a Bell 429 helicopter – was flying in the area to assist Campbelltown Police Area Command with inquiries, when they were struck repeatedly by a laser.

A short time later, PolAir3 identified the location of the laser (pictured above) and coordinated ground crews to a street in Glen Alpine, where a 52-year-old man was arrested about 9.50pm.

He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged threatening the safety of aircraft and persons on board and possessing and using a prohibited weapon without permit.

The man was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court.

The crew member, a male senior Tactical Flight Officer, suffered minor injuries to his eyes.

He will be required to undergo a detailed medical examination to ascertain if any serious injury has been suffered.

The pilot and second crew member on board at the time were not injured, while PolAir3 was able to land without incident.

In a separate incident, police are appealing for public assistance to identify two men after a wild duck was killed in the Southern Highlands on the weekend.

Initial inquiries have led police to believe two men chased a flock of wild ducks in the car park of a registered club on the Old Hume Highway, Mittagong, before one of the ducks was caught and decapitated.

The men left the scene a short time later and police were notified of the incident.

As investigations into the incident continue, police have released images of two men who may be able to assist with inquiries.

Anyone with information or who has footage of the incident is urged to contact Goulburn detectives on 4824 0736 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
