Lang Walker, the executive chairman of Walker Corporation, has been named a business ambassador for the United for Macarthur A-League bid.
The campaign is a Campbelltown City Council initiative.
“As a member of the Macarthur community – having operated in the region for many years, we were excited by the bid for an A-eague team and the opportunity to show our support,’’ Mr Walker said.
“The Macarthur bid has the legs to win, with the Campbelltown Sports Stadium in place and ready to go.
“It makes perfect sense for one of the fastest growing populations in any urban area of Australia to have its own football team in what is an exciting and successful national competition,’’ he said.
Mr Walker said a successful bid would trigger investment in the team, the sport and future upgrades to Campbelltown Sports Stadium.
There are currently 11,000 registered footballers in the region with expectations for numbers to grow to 20,000 in the future, with a clear pathway from junior leagues to national level with an A-League team increasing awareness and interest in the sport.

“This will generate further investment in this fast growing region that will become home to nearly one million people under the NSW Government’s three cities strategy.”
The Campbelltown Council bid is also aligned to the state government’s railway corridor strategy which could see Leumeah transformed into a regionally significant sporting and entertainment precinct.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said the bid had attracted a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm.
“Council is pleased to have the support of Lang Walker, a successful and respected businessman with a strong commitment to the Macarthur region.”
