NSW Shadow Treasurer Ryan Park and Member for Campbelltown Greg Warren are urging the NSW Government to act immediately to address safety issues on Appin Road, following yet another fatality on the road on Monday night.
The pair emphasised the need for serious investment from the NSW Government towards safety upgrades for the road, particularly in the 10.2km stretch between Fitzgibbon Lane, Rosemeadow and the Appin.
The call comes after a 25 year old teacher from John Therry Catholic High School was killed in a head-on collision on the road near Copperfield Drive last night.
“This is yet another sad and tragic loss on one of the most dangerous roads in NSW,’’ Mr Warren said.
“My heart goes out to the family of the young lady who was tragically killed last night.
“I met with the Roads Minister again, first thing this morning, to reiterate my concerns and urge the government to take serious action as a matter of urgency.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“While I welcome the works currently under way, our community expects more, and it is clear that more safety improvements are required to keep motorists safe on Appin Road,” the local MP said.[/social_quote]
Mr Park and Mr Warren said they welcomed the curve realignment works currently underway at Bulli Tops, but also said that much more would be required to keep commuters on Appin Road safe.
They also stressed the importance of acting immediately, with the Greater Macarthur Land Release set to see an additional 35,000 new homes between Campbelltown and Appin, which will increase the strain on Appin Road.
“Another family have been struck with this horrendous tragedy of a life lost too soon on Appin Road. My thoughts are with the family at this very sad time,’’ Mr Park said.
“We need to look at every possible option to fix this notorious road and it needs to be given the highest priority. Strong investment in this road is necessary as a matter of urgency.
“Any works that are currently under way are all welcome however more can and should be done. I stand ready to work in a bipartisan way to ensure the safety of all motorists on our roads.’’
Of course this should be a bipartisan issue:

How can RMS state in a 2014 report that the new Development in Appin has major safety issues, and should not be allowed.
Then in Dec 2015 it gets approved by council, on condition that the developer gifts back to council a parcel of public road they own.
Now the developer has put into council an amendment re that road. Yes that’s correct, a developer owns a tarred and sealed road.
