The Labor Party is set to name its candidate for the Liverpool Council by-election in the next few days.

The by-election will be held on Saturday, April 18 to fill the vacancy in South Ward created by the retirement of senior Labor councillor Betty Green for personal reasons.

“With everything currently happening at Liverpool City Council, this is an important by-election for the community,’’ a local Labor spokesperson told the South West Voice.

Liverpool City Council CEO Jason Breton said the by-election is an important part of maintaining full representation for the community.

“This by-election ensures that residents of South Ward continue to have dedicated representation at the council table,” Mr Breton said.

“Local councils make decisions every day that shape the future of our city, from infrastructure and planning to community services and public spaces.

“It’s important that South Ward residents are properly represented when decisions are being made.”

Voting in NSW local government elections is compulsory for eligible voters. Residents who are enrolled and live in South Ward are required to cast a ballot. Failure to vote may result in a penalty under state electoral laws.

The election is being administered by the NSW Electoral Commission, which is responsible for enrolment, polling arrangements, vote counting and the declaration of results.

South Ward residents who are unsure of their enrolment status or ward boundary can check their details online at:
