Kirkham Park looks set to become one of Macarthur’s biggest sporting hubs.

A BMX track and jump park facilities, synthetic cricket pitch, three sports fields and a rugby league grandstand with amenities and change room are just some of the new facilities that will be built there according to the Kirkham Park Masterplan.

The work will be done in stages and will include an upgrade of the existing skate park, new road network and formal car park areas, new amenities building, upgrade of playground and cycle paths.

Formal connecting footpaths from surrounding residential areas, relocation of fences and improved drainage systems are also part of the draft plan for Kirkham Park.

Camden Council wants to hear the views of local residents before it goes ahead with the improvements.

“This plan has been drafted in consultation with regular users of the facilities to address their needs and accommodate the future growth of these sports,” says Camden Mayor Lara Symkowiak.

“It is important to us that we create accessible, comfortable and high quality public facilities that have the capacity to endure for the long term,” Cr Symkowiak said.

The park currently offers BMX track, skate park, cricket and rugby league facilities.

The netball club was transferred to the new, purpose built outdoor courts and amenities at the Narellan Sports Hub last year.

Council says that while funding is currently available for some of the proposed projects, a staged approach will be applied to the list of works that will be done as funding becomes available.

Stage one funding includes the start of the BMX expansion, additional rugby league fields as well as upgrades and improvements to the skate park and playground.

The draft Kirkham Park master plan will be on exhibition until Friday, April 27 and is available to view at council’s administration building in Oran Park, the Camden Civic Centre, Camden and Narellan libraries and on council’s website, www.camden.nsw.gov.au
