The brand new Kirkham Park BMX facility will open its doors to budding stars of the sport during two free sessions in February.

The first one hour session will be on next Monday, February 8 from 4.30pm.

It will be followed by a second one on Wednesday, February 17, also from 4.30pm.

The free sessions will give local youngsters the chance to ride the track.

Experienced BMX coaches will be on hand to offer advice to the budding BMX stars.

For those who’ve never tried BMX, the sessions will be an opportunity to explore what the sport has to offer.

Camden Council and Macarthur BMX have joined forces to provide these free BMX open hour events at Kirkham Park.

“Council is very proud of stage one of the Kirkham BMX facility, and we are all eager to see many children safely testing themselves on the track,” says the mayor of Camden, Theresa Fedeli.

“Before doing so it is best to learn from the professionals and this open hour will give local children the confidence to ride down a competition standard track and get great tips from Macarthur BMX club’s coaches.

“Thanks to a fantastic partnership between council and Macarthur BMX, residents will be able to use this state-of-the-art facility under the right guidance.

“BMX is such a fantastic growing sport which has been contested in the Olympics since 2008 and I look forward to seeing our local kids learn as much as they can as they aspire to reach the Olympics one day.”

The design and planning for stage two of Kirkham Park BMX facility is under way and will include an 8-metre start hill for the international level racetrack, off road sprint area, recreational jump park and pump track, plus additional lighting.
