Children as young as six can now join in on the Kids TRYathlon fun in Camden via the new splash and dash category.
Designed for kids who are eager to get involved in the TRYathlon, the splash and dash will see participants complete a 75 metre pool swim followed by a 500 metre run before crossing the finish line.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the new category was a fantastic entry point for kids into the full Kids TRYathlon, which is on this Sunday.
“It is great to see the younger kids have an opportunity to give something new a try,” Cr Fedeli said.
“It’s so important for the whole family to stay fit and healthy throughout their lives and this is a chance for parents to teach their kids the importance of eating well and exercising at an early age.
“We had more than 700 participants last year and I encourage families to get their kids involved with this world class event right in the heart of Camden.”
The TRYathlon, which is sponsored by Sanitarium Weet-Bix, will be held this Sunday (March 1) at Onslow Oval with check-in kicking off at 6.30am for an 8.30am start.
Registrations are still open for children aged 6-15 years, with categories including:
- A swim in Camden War Memorial Pool: 75 metres for participants aged 6-10 years and 15 metres for participants aged 11-15 years;
- A cycle through closed suburban streets: three kilometres for 7-10 years and six kilometres for 11-15 years; and
- A run through the finish arch at Onslow Oval: 500 metres for 6-10 years and one kilometre for 11-15 years.
Council will also host the second annual Camden Healthy Living Expo in conjunction with the TRYathlon at Onslow Oval on the day.
This will give residents the opportunity to meet local businesses and connect with sport and recreational opportunities available in Camden, as well as learn about healthy lifestyles, food and drink.
