Television presenter, journalist and author Jessica Rowe is ready to share her experiences as the keynote speaker at Camden International Women’s Day gala event this Thursday, March 10.

The Gala function – at historic Gledswood Homestead – will celebrate local women’s achievements, raise awareness of women’s equality, contribute to the gender parity journey and raise funds for Camden Meals on Wheels.

The event is sold out.

Ms Rowe, one of several female speakers lined up, said she was looking forward to the Gala.

“Camden is such an incredible community doing extraordinary things to support and enhance the lives of women and their families,” Ms Rowe said.

“International Women’s Day is very important to me. It’s a chance to celebrate, reflect and connect with one another. I think about the trailblazers who paved the way for me to have the choices I have today as well as the young women who are making such an impact and difference.

“I’m passionate about sharing our stories and experiences – it’s how we feel heard and understood. Also, it’s going to be so special to have an event with people all together. Nothing is better than that face-to-face connection. It’s the first time in a long time for me, so look out as I do love a chat.”

Other speakers include:

  • Sana Al-Ahmar: local community leader, refugee support advocate and member of Camden Cohesive Advisory Group.
  • Rhiannon Bentley: owner of local Camden Business Sweet Treats by Rhi.
  • Brooke Murray: mental health advocate and 2022 Camden Citizen of the Year.
  • Sarah Ryan: MC and former Olympic swimmer.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the event was set to raise much needed funds to continue supporting Camden Meals on Wheels.

“Hosting the International Women’s Day Gala not only celebrates the achievements of local women, but it also goes a long way in council continuing to provide support for the entire community,” Cr Fedeli said.

“I’d like to thank all of our sponsors who have joined us in celebrating International Women’s Day and I look forward to the event.”
