Local federal MP Dr Mike Freelander is telling Claymore residents who have been paying for their regular internet connection, but not receiving it, to get compensation.

Some residents of Claymore have been without properly working internet for three months.

The interruption to internet connectivity was caused after an NBN tower was damaged by fire earlier this year at Claymore, which is undergoing an urban renewal transformation, pictured above.

Dr Freelander is now urging any of his constituents who have been affected to lodge enquiries with his office and the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman in order to seek compensation.

The Member for Macarthur says it is “grossly unfair” that local residents are unable to access the internet during a time when it’s needed more than ever.

Having written to the Minister for Communications, Telstra and NBNCo, Dr Freelander has urged relevant authorities to act to restore services as a matter of urgency.

“Local residents are expected to work from home and home school students, in line with health restrictions.

“However, this is next to impossible without appropriate internet connectivity,” said Dr Freelander.

“The fact that residents have been left waiting for months to have their services restored is simply deplorable.

“Claymore is home to some of the most disadvantaged people in our community, and it is not fair for the authorities to not treat this as a priority.

“This standard would not be acceptable in other parts of Sydney, and should not be acceptable in Macarthur.

“Residents are rightfully tired of being treated as second class citizens,” Dr Freelander said.
