Public spaces and buildings will become a giant canvas for artists as part of a plan to “reimagine’’ the central business district (CBD) of Campbelltown.
While the plan will offer artists an opportunity to exhibit their work it will also boost the local economy, which will be good news for local businesses.
The first stages of the project will be to develop a theme for the design of the street art, and identifying suitable locations for its installation within the CBD.
Campbelltown City Council will work with local artists, residents and businesses to develop and deliver the plan.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said the importance of reinvigorating the city’s CBD was highlighted during the extensive public consultation undertaken as part of council’s community strategic plan.
“Our community is calling for more vibrant and active CBDs – places where art and culture are celebrated, tourism opportunities are promoted, and where people simply feel good,” he said.
“This exciting project responds to that feedback.
“Council will work hand-in-hand with the community, ensuring they feel connected to arts and cultural activities in the CBD, and are given the opportunity to play a part in the creation of public areas which attract both locals and visitors to our city.

The project has been made possible with the support of a Federal Government Stronger Communities Program grant of almost $20,000 with matching funding by Campbelltown City Council.
