Could it be better: This picture of the entrance to Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre was taken with an iphone.

There is more to taking pictures with your iphone than Instagram might have you think.

If you don’t think so check out Phone-agraphs, a series of mobile phone photography workshops coming to Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

Over three weeks starting next Saturday, August 15, participants will be led through apps and composition, learning photography principles and all the tricks to capturing high quality photographs on mobile phones.

The workshops, run in association with the Australian Centre for Photography (ACP), will be led by Markus Anderson, a freelance photographer since 2003 who divides his time between his professional and personal work.

His art practice encompasses documentary, street and conceptual bodies of work using 35mm, 120mm, Polaroid and the iPhone.

Director of Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre Kiersten Fishburn says this is a great opportunity for budding photographers.

“Markus will also provide feedback and help the participants select images for an exhibition with Casula Powerhouse and ACP at the

conclusion, which is a great outcome for any photographer.

“I can’t wait to see the final product on the walls of Casula Powerhouse.”

Liverpool City Council Mayor, Ned Mannoun says he is very excited to see photography workshops specific to mobile phones.

“I really enjoy photography and would love the chance to develop my knowledge and skills.

“These workshops reveal the versatility of smartphones and show how you can take great photos on your phone.”
