Hoops of fun: a basketball competition gets under way this Saturday at Macquarie Fields.

If hoops is your kind of game there’s good news.

A new fun, but competitive, summer basketball competition will give players of all ages the opportunity to show off their skills on court at Macquarie Fields multi-purpose courts.

Macarthur Basketball Association (MBA), in partnership with Campbelltown City Council is hosting the trial competition at the new courts, on Canterbury Road, Macquarie Fields.

The eight-week competition tips off from this Saturday, January 7, with games held from 7pm each Saturday night until February 25.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said the summer basketball competition was a great way for enthusiasts to get a taste for the game, or for seasoned players to brush up on their skills, in a friendly, competitive environment.

“The competition will give players the opportunity to learn or sharpen skills like dribbling and pivoting, jump shots and layups,” he said.

“But it will also be a social environment, so bring your friends and family along to play or cheer you on, and enjoy making new friends and being part of a team.”

The MBA will organise the fully-structured competition, providing officials and constructing the draw.

Participants will be allocated to teams dependent on age.

Participation costs $10 per player, per week, which covers player insurance through Basketball NSW.
