A 73 year old man was punched inside his Mount Annan home when he confronted two intruders in the early hours of Friday morning.

Police, who are now appealing for information, say  that around 3.45am  the victim was awoken by noises in his home on The Cascades.

When he went to investigate he was confronted by two unknown males.

One of the intruders fled the scene before a short physical altercation took place between the second male and the 73-year-old man, who was punched in the face and fell to the floor.

His attacker then also fled the scene.

Emergency services were called, and the man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for bruising to his face and lacerations to his legs.

Officers from Camden Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

Initial inquiries have led police to believe a small dark-coloured hatchback, which was seen nearby shortly prior to the incident, may be linked.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the home invasion incident to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.

The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
