South west Sydney residents opposed to a giant intermodal terminal facility going ahead in Moorebank are taking their campaign to Glenfield Farm this weekend.
The historic property, which will be affected by the noise from the freight trains servicing the terminal, will host a day of protest this Sunday, June 26, starting with a sausage sizzle from 12.30pm.
Glenfield Farm is located at 88 Leacocks Lane, Casula, and everyone is welcome, including all the candidates from the electorates of Hughes, Werriwa and Fowler.
“This is about making a stand for the South West of Sydney,’’ said the organisers of the day, Residents Against Intermodals in Moorebank – RAID.
“For over eight years both the Liberal and Labor parties have supported the building of two intermodals at Moorebank,’’ RAID said.
“Neither intermodal will address the issue of freight movement or traffic congestion at it source.
“Instead they will actually compound the existing problems and hide the real solutions.
“Only a handful of our local political representatives have been fighting this battle along with the residents.
“It’s time to make all politicians and all parties accountable.’’
RAID chairman John Anderson has today told the South West Voice in Macarthur that he was hoping all the candidates would turn up.
“But more importantly we want as many people as possible to attend, because the bigger the group, the harder to ignore us or continue to dump on us.
“Bring family, bring friends, bring your neighbours, your banners and your placards,’’ he urged.
Stage one of the Moorebank Intermodal Company (MIC) application recently received the support of the NSW Planning Assessment Commission but the final approval is still some way off.
