Nine year old girls should be having fun instead of fundraising.
But fundraising’s exactly what these St Peter’s Anglican Primary School students have been doing for a few years now as part of the 24 Hour Walk Against Cancer.
Raphaela O’Neill-Siambis, Samantha Brown and Louise Foran have this year decided to go up a level and contribute a little more to the cause.
They have organised a high tea function on Saturday, October 28, complete with music and live auction, as part of their objective to raise $5,000 for 24 Hour in 2017.
That’s a pretty substantial aim and even in a community minded region like Macarthur their Actions Speak Louder Than Words high tea takes the cake, as it were.
No records are kept for such things, but these junior fundraisers are definitely major league.
All three girls are part of families which have been affected by cancer and in recent year the youngsters have been anything but bystanders during the 24 Hour Walk at the athletics track of Campbelltown Sports Stadium.
They raised around $3,000 last year through a number of initiatives, including cake stalls and selling paintings and arts and crafts which they and their friends made.
Raphaela , the leader of this band of under age but overachieving fundraisers, already has five years of 24 Hour Walk Against Cancer under her belt.
She says that talking among themselves, the girls felt that they could do more to help people affected by cancer.
“We want to raise as much as possible to help everyone involved in 24 Hour,’’ says the Year 4 student.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“That’s because the money goes towards the fight against cancer and we want to add more to that,’’ Raphaela said.[/social_quote]
Local business support has already been good for the team, with the Duffy Law Group donating illuminated bottles of water to be sold at the 24 Hour Walk weekend on October 21-22.
The cake stall is also on this year, thanks to the kind contribution of a local bakery, which has donated the sweet treats.
Raphaela says the high tea at the classy Alkalizer café will be a fun time for young and old and will include fine food and music, gift bags and some great surprises.
“Please come along to have a nice time and to help us raise money to fight cancer in Macarthur,’’ she said.
