The Wollondilly Heritage Centre & Museum will roll back the years when it celebrates this year’s national grandparents day on October 29.
Demonstrations of butter making and Aboriginal dot painting will be part of the “menu’’ on the day.
“Our grandparents day event will involve volunteers co-ordinating some of the activities that we run for our
schools education program,’’ explains Trish Hill, president of The Oaks Historical Society.
“We are often asked if we could run those activities generally and this is an opportunity to get involved and experience some old fashioned butter making, bean slicing, hand washing and a variety of other activities from times past.
“Come along and join in the fun.
“Bring your family and friends – the more the merrier! “This is an opportunity where you can visit our Heritage Centre and experience some activities of days gone by,’’ Trish said.
Activities and demonstrations will include:
School: slate pencils and boards;
Laundry: washing, mangle and dolly washer
Cottage: cream beating, mincing bread and slicing beans
Shed: egg cleaning machine and apple grader
Art: Aboriginal dot painting on paper.
Guests will also be able to enjoy a delicious sausage sizzle and refreshing beverages.
Set activities and demonstrations will be on between 10am and 1pm, however the centre will remain open until 4pm.
Entry and activities are free on the day.
